The biggest fireworks show in the Queen City is SkyShow, staged at Truist Field in Uptown as part of the Stars and Stripes Spectacular. The night pairs a Charlotte Symphony performance of patriotic favorites with a huge fireworks finale, often billed as the largest display in the Southeast.
Tickets typically start around $30. If you would rather skip the ticket, you can watch the fireworks for free from nearby Romare Bearden Park, and some locals catch them from the upper levels of Uptown parking decks. Expect road closures and transit detours around Truist Field on show night, so plan your route.
America 250 at Romare Bearden Park
Right in the middle of Uptown, Romare Bearden Park hosts a free, family-friendly Independence Day celebration with cultural performances, food trucks, a kids zone, and a drone show finale. It runs through the late afternoon and evening.
It doubles as one of the best free spots to catch the SkyShow fireworks overhead, which makes it a great home base for families who want a full evening without buying tickets.
Carowinds Fireworks
Carowinds, on the North and South Carolina line, closes out the Fourth with a patriotic fireworks show after a full day of rides and entertainment. The display usually goes off around 9:30 p.m.
You will need park admission, but for families already planning a day at the park, capping it with fireworks is an easy win. A season pass is worth pricing out if you expect to visit more than once over the summer.
U.S. National Whitewater Center
The Whitewater Center throws a two-day celebration over July 3 and 4 with live music, races like the Tread, White and Blue trail run, paddling, and other outdoor activities across its wooded grounds. Entry to the grounds is free, with parking around $13.
